RAPID CITY, S.D. – Work has started on the new Black Hills War Memorial at Rapid City’s Memorial Park.

Cement work started Wednesday morning with the construction company, Complete Concrete, putting down six pads to support granite memorials.

Spearheaded by Ed Manzano, a veteran who served at Ellsworth, each rock of granite will have names of local vets from every conflict since World War I.

Complete concrete and all involved with the project are donating supplies and services toward the cause.

Rob Danielson, Complete Concrete Inc. Project Manager said, “It’s the absolute least we can do. I mean, there’s absolutely nothing better than what we’re doing. This is important.”

The final concrete work for the flag pole bases is expected to be completed next week. The Black Hills War Memorial will encircle the existing Veterans Memorial.
