Nashville’s first million-dollar luxury property, The Hermitage has served as the perfect backdrop for more than 110 years of the city’s iconic moments, historic imprints, and cherished memories. So much so that ‘Meet me at The Hermitage’ has become an adage that has echoed throughout Tennessee’s capital ever since it opened its door in 1910.

The iconic hotel has recently undergone a grand transformation. The restoration and redesign process took years to finish with a complete makeover of The Hermitage’s striking lobby, ballroom, and 122 rooms and suites.

Originally designed by Tennessee architect James E R Carpenter, the stunning Beaux Arts lobby dons a fresh new look from the popular design studio Forrest Perkins. The new clean and bright look with more modern furnishings has replaced the old red and gold traditional theme that ran across the lobby.

Instead, delicate shades of blue and silver are used in the textured upholstery and area rugs, while the original ornate molding and plaster work has been refreshed with a brighter and cooler palette.

A similar serene color palette is now running through all rooms and suites. The guestrooms — averaging 500 square feet—have been redesigned with a residential feel. Desks have been replaced with tables that can double as workspaces or be used for in-room dining, and new millwork conceals updated minibars and amenities that create a multi-functional space.

“Nashville is evolving in exciting ways, and it is important that we stay in step with the times and continue the hotel’s legacy of providing a true luxury experience for our guests,” hotel owners Robert and Molly Hardie said in a statement.

Two new restaurants from Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten were opened in The Hermitage earlier this year. The American restaurant Drusie & Darr and the all-day café called The Pink Hermit were both designed by Thomas-Juul Hansen. A new ladies’ room featuring pink marble and fixtures has also opened.

The high quality of construction and workmanship ensured that the original marble, the ornamental plaster detail, and many other original attributes of the hotel remain intact today.

The Hermitage Hotel’s staff will wear a new designer wardrobe designed by Draper James, the lifestyle brand founded by Nashville native Reese Witherspoon. Created exclusively for The Hermitage Hotel, the apparel uses fabrics and accessories in a signature print named “The Hermitage Hotel Ditsy Floral.”
