Do you have visions of your dream kitchen floating around your mind, or like many of us, images and concepts pinned to a Pinterest board?
Undertaking a complete remodel might not be in the budget at the moment, however, that doesn’t mean that you need to give up on those dreams completely or that there is nothing you can do to spruce up your kitchen space. There are smaller, more budget friendly updates you can make to your kitchen with no remodeling necessary.
If you have a large expanse of open wall space to fill, you could consider adding some shelves. This is a fresh way to showcase those treasured glassware items, your collection of unique serving wear or gorgeous cookbooks. Open shelving allows for more storage space while adding visual interest and a touch of elegance with structural of minimal brackets.
While choosing to paint your cabinets can be quite a lot of work, it is an extremely affordable alternative to purchasing new cabinets, especially if you do the work yourself. For the cost of a can or two of paint and primer, and some elbow grease it will add a new lease of life to your kitchen space. Regardless of whether you choose a dark dramatic color like black or something softer like grey, a little sanding and couple of coats of paint and your kitchen will be transformed.
So simple, yet effective. This quick and easy step gives your outdated hardware, and in turn your kitchen, a little refresh without costing a fortune. Whatever your design tastes, there are plenty of options out there to choose from. For an on-trend update, and to warm up your finishes, look for brass options in modern, sleek shapes.
Lighting under your cabinets adds ambience and drama, while showcasing your display pieces. There is a plethora of low-cost options on the market including battery-operated LED lights that adhere to cabinets. Under cabinet lighting is softer than overhead and helps create a warm feel at night.
If your kitchen is feeling a little underwhelming, but you still enjoy your cabinet color, spice up the space with a new color on the walls. If you opt for a bright white, a darker hue or something in between, make sure you choose a color that works in harmony and complement your cabinets.
If your desire to remodel your kitchen comes from having a lack of storage, reassess the cabinets you already have and double their capacity by purchasing graduated shelving inserts, dividers or turntables. Make sure to really address your storage needs before making that trip to the store.
You may not have the countertops of your dreams, and a complete switch out is expensive and messy. For an easy and quick way to refresh, cover sections of your counters with large cutting boards or a slab of marble. This works well if you have an area that has a damaged spot and needs to be camouflaged until you’re ready to take on the large task of replacing the whole thing.
