California home prices have fallen in the last few months, but the right property can still entice millionaires into fierce bidding wars. To wit: this clifftop house in the Hollywood Hills, which recently debuted on the market with a $2.6 million list price. In barely one month, the home sold for $3.3 million — $700,000 more than what the seller, a Beverly Hills-based businesswoman, had been asking.
Records indicate the wealthy new owner is Hollywood actress Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, who has appeared in various series and films (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Cicada”) but first came to widespread media attention circa mid-2000s, when she was publicly revealed to be the firstborn child of Albert II, Prince of Monaco. In 2006, His Highness formally acknowledged his fatherhood of Grimaldi, who was born in Palm Springs, Calif., to Tamara Rotolo, an American former waitress who met the Prince while vacationing in Europe.
While Grimaldi, 30, is not in the line of succession to Monaco’s throne, reports indicate she is already financially set for life thanks to her wealthy father, whose net worth is frequently estimated to be north of $1 billion USD. And of course, she’s already a member of showbiz royalty as the granddaughter of iconic actress Grace Kelly (“Rear Window,” “High Noon,” “Dial M for Murder,” “To Catch a Thief”).
Originally built in 1965 but given a radical contemporary renovation in recent years, Grimaldi’s new multilevel villa lies on a quiet cul-de-sac in Outpost Estates, a celebrity-packed neighborhood in the hills famously also home to Winona Ryder, Johnny Galecki, Felicity Huffman, Russell Brand and Madelaine Petsch — to name a few.
The listing emphasized what is arguably the property’s best attribute: its jetliner views, which drink in the Griffith Observatory, the Hollywood sign and the DTLA skyline to the east. And the home’s location is ideal for a person seeking residential serenity yet remaining just minutes away from the Sunset Strip and some of L.A.’s best nightlife, restaurants and shopping destinations, plus nature-filled canyons and numerous hiking trails.
Per tax records, the boxy home offers three bedrooms, three full baths and one powder room spread across three levels totaling about 2,300 square feet of interior space. White and bright throughout, the structure has Carrara marble slab flooring imported from Italy, a sleek kitchen with top-of-the-line Thermador appliances, granite countertops and bespoke cabinetry, high ceilings and custom pocket-sliding glass doors throughout.
There’s also a two-car attached garage, plus a “floating” staircase and separate bonus room ideal for a small yoga studio or gym. All three of the home’s levels have long balconies with unobstructed views of the surrounding hills and L.A. basin, while the penthouse-level primary suite features a bedroom with a fireplace and sitting area, a walk-in closet and a stone bathroom with dual sinks and built-in soaking tub.
Like many homes in these steep and frequently jam-packed hills, the Grimaldi residence doesn’t have a pool or much of a yard, but that’s a boon for maintenance costs — and the panoramic views arguably more than make up for those deficiencies.
