In the restyling of an apartment in New York, the fluidity of the spaces and the materiality of the surfaces also characterize the bathrooms, where precious materials, vintage notes and geometric graphics create enveloping scenographies.Among the coverings, the Venetian stucco on the curved plasterboard walls and the colored cement tiles of some floors stand out.Michael K. Chen, a young designer from the New York studio MKCA, has designed the restyling of an airy apartment for a family of five on Park Avenue, in Manhattan's Upper East Side.The spaces have been remodeled to optimize circulation and functionality by transforming the house into an interconnected landscape, with rooms that can be configured according to needs, where the family can entertain guests or find moments of privacy.As in the whole house, even in the bathrooms - master, courtesy, for children -, alternating with serial design pieces, there are numerous pieces of furniture made to design in precious marble or lacquered finishes.“In this work too, our design approach was based on the definition of relationships and a real dialogue: between us and the clients, between collaborators and objects,” says Chen.Precious and never predictable choices of coatings and materials.As in the main bathroom, where the curved walls are wrapped in rosy Venetian plaster, Byzantine pink onyx and Calacatta Vagli Rosato marble.Or in the children's bathrooms, where the geometric games of the floors are obtained thanks to the use of colored cement tiles in a matt and silky finish.Each intervention refers to the primary objective of the project: to create modern, fluid and elegant spaces, sometimes making bold aesthetic choices.«From the beginning, the customers themselves asked us to take them out of their comfort zone.Without neglecting functionality, they were also interested in an adventurous and expressive approach, even if never eccentric », concludes the architect.Frequency: 6 issues per year for ItalyIlbagnonews is a publication of DBInformation Spa VAT 09293820156 |Business Center - Strada 4, Palazzo A, Scala 2 - 20057 Assago (MI)
