WINDHOEK, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Etosha National Park, more than 400 km to the north of Windhoek, the Namibian capital, is Namibia's foremost wildlife sanctuary with a total area of more than 22,000 square kilometers. Etosha means the "great white area" in the local language, referring to the huge salt pan.
The park is home to 114 species of mammals, more than 100 different reptiles and over 340 species of birds.
