'The staircases and the architecture are really special. They are up there with the best staircases I’ve seen.'

A huge and luxurious mansion is on the market in a Welsh town and can be snapped up if you can get your hands on £4 million. The stunning Mansion House in Chepstow dates back to the 19th century and has been home to Sir William Henry Marlin, famous antiquarian George Ormerod, and has more recently been a school and then a nursing home for 30 years.

The site is one and a half miles from Chepstow town centre, spans across nine acres and includes five separate buildings totalling 52,000 square feet. The grand main building shown using drone footage is grade II listed and remains full of character inside.

The property is on the market with Key Executive Sales, and director Emma Vidler told WalesOnline that it will be one of their most exciting ever sales. “It’s only been on the market for a week,” she said. “Part of the buildings were used as a care home but it’s been empty for a while. It could be the most expensive ever sale on the border of Wales.

“The staircases and the architecture are really special. They are up there with the best staircases I’ve seen.

“Underneath the carpet is a beautiful black and white marble floor which is absolutely fabulous. We think it could be a great opportunity for a hotel operator perhaps, or maybe as a wedding venue.”
