A new Crumbl Cookies location is set to open Friday at 9505 W 142nd St., Unit 302.

Store owners Omar Bayazid and Thaer Ahmad said the grand opening week menu will contain 6 of the 200-plus weekly rotating flavors including Crumbl’s award-winning Milk Chocolate Chip. Some of Crumbl’s specialty flavors include Cornbread, Cookies & Cream, S’mores, Key Lime Pie, Peppermint Bark, Caramel Popcorn, Buttermilk Pancake and Galaxy Brownie.

The store will employ 70 people, and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. Delivery, curbside pickup, catering, and nationwide shipping will be available via the Crumbl App and online at Crumbl.com.

Cincinnati-based Kroger foods closed its Food 4 Less discount store in Oak Forest Commons last weekend.

The closing had been announced earlier this year because of a pending rent increase for the space at 5556 W. 159th St. as well as insufficient sales.

Kroger has been closing underperforming Kroger and Food 4 Less stores this year across the country.

Although the company no longer has Kroger stores in the Chicago area, having pulled out of the market decades ago. The company operates a handful of Food 4 Less stores in the south suburbs as well as more upscale Mariano’s supermarkets.

The closing of the Oak Forest Food 4 Less leaves stores in Alsip, Dolton and Chicago Heights still operating.

Oak Forest shoppers can still buy food and sundries at a Jewel-Osco store about a block away on 159th Street.

A bar and grill that catered to hockey fans closed recently in Midlothian.

Slapshots Bar and Grill at 14608 S. Cicero Ave. opened at the end of September in 2017 in the Ricky Rockets plaza and was dressed to impress hockey fans in general and Blackhawks fans in particular.

It was owner Bobby Kennealy’s dream to have a sports bar.

No reason was given for the closing.

Thassos Greek Restaurant announced last week it will be leaving Palos Hills for a new location in Clarendon Hills.

The restaurant announced it will stop operating at 11011 Southwest Highway Aug. 15.

The announcement said it hoped to be open in its new home near Ogden and Route 83 by the end of September.

No reason was given for the move and calls were not returned.

The restaurant in a Facebook posting said, “Thassos thanks you for supporting our business, and we look forward to providing the same excellent quality of food and service at our new location. Thank you and see you soon.”

Thassos opened in Palos Hills in 2019 in a building that had mixed luck as a restaurant. In 2017, it opened as an Outriggers seafood restaurant, which had bounced around the south and southwest suburbs since it was forced to close in Tinley Park.

Its stay in Palos Hills was short as it soon relocated — again — this time to Lansing.

Prior to being Outriggers, it was part of the Las Fuentes Mexican restaurant group, which still has locations in Alsip, Morton Grove and Chicago’s Lincoln Park and Bucktown neighborhoods.

A chicken wings restaurant is now open in New Lenox across the street from Lincoln-Way Central High School.

Wingstop is now open at 1820 E. Lincoln Highway in a former cellphone repair store.

Hours at the new restaurant are 11 a.m. to midnight daily.
