EL SEGUNDO, CA — Fogo de Chão, a Brazilian restaurant specializing in churrasco dining, opens Friday in El Segundo — marking the company's third eatery in the Greater Los Angeles region.

Founded in Southern Brazil in 1979, Fogo elevates centuries-old, churrasco cooking — the art of roasting meat over an open flame — into a cultural experience, management said. With elaborate tableside presentations, gaucho chefs serve diners continuous rounds of seafood and meats butchered, fire-roasted and carved.

The new restaurant is at 2121 Rosecrans Ave. Other area locations include Beverly Hills and downtown L.A.

The restaurant's "continuous" menu servings include filet mignon, ribeye, pork ribs, pork chops, chicken, lamb, spicy sausage, plus such sides as polenta, mashed potatoes and "pao de queojo" cheese bread.

The El Segundo team is headed by general manager, Ashley Retzloff, who started her Fogo career in 2013 as a server, then assistant manager, at a San Diego location.

"As we prepare for the opening, I have found the South Bay community to be very welcoming, similar to the warmness of our Brazilian culture," Retzloff said. "Dining at Fogo isn't about just sitting down for a meal, it's a dining experience of discovery and a chance to try something new every time you visit."

The eatery's "Market Table" and "Feijoada Bar" also offer salads, soups, veggies, charcuterie and more with varying lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and takeout options.

The new restaurant's decor features a marble and gold exterior, soaring windows, modern chandeliers, natural wood paneling and furnishings, intended to pay homage to the restaurant's Brazilian heritage, management said.

The dining room includes a white, Carrara marble Market Table and an open-air bar where patrons can watch gaucho chefs' culinary arts — preparing and grilling protein cuts over an open flame.

The El Segundo locale also will include "Bar Fogo," a bar and lounge area dedicated to Brazilian-inspired appetizers and small plates, plus happy hour specials, craft cocktails and South American wines.

"Dining at Fogo isn't about just sitting down for a meal, it's a dining experience of discovery and a chance to try something new every time you visit,"the company said.

"We look forward to welcoming guests through our doors in the heart of El Segundo in the next few weeks," Retzloff added.

The El Segundo opening will bring an estimated 110 new jobs to the region, the company said. For employment — for both front and back-of-house jobs — visit link here or call (424) 397-1660.
