Back in 2017, Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård (“The Northman,” “Big Little Lies,” “True Blood”) doled out $2.3 million for a luxe apartment in Manhattan’s East Village neighborhood, and subsequently embarked on an extensive renovation and modernization of the premises. Now the stylish digs have popped up for sale with a nearly $2.6 million ask, as was first reported by Architectural Digest.
Tucked away on the top floor of a 19th-century co-op building in the St. Marks Historic District — and owned at one time by actress Parker Posey, who sold it in 2008 for $1.3 million — the compact one-bedroom, one-bath unit is rife with pre-war details. There are high wood-beam ceilings throughout, plus refurbished south-facing windows adorned with pocket shutters, five skylights and the original wide-plank pine floors.
Highlights include a combo living/dining room featuring a wood-burning marble fireplace embedded in an exposed brick wall, and a large casement window offering up a garden view. There’s also a gallery-style kitchen sporting European white oak cabinetry, Carrara marble countertops, and high-end Bertazzoni and Bosch appliances.
A small primary suite is outfitted with electric window shades and a wall of white oak floor-to-ceiling closets, along with a slate-floored bath boasting a custom brass shower insert, and Waterworks and Duravit fixtures; and elsewhere is a Miele washer/dryer.
The star’s penthouse unit also comes with $2,222 in monthly maintenance fees, which allows for amenities like a communal garden, live-in superintendent and basement storage lockers. An added bonus: Roof rights, which means the new owner could build a private roof deck overlooking downtown and the Freedom Tower.
Skarsgård, 45, first achieved recognition for playing the model Meekus in “Zoolander” in the early aughts, but his breakout role came a few years later as vampire Eric Northman in the TV horror drama “True Blood.” He went on to appear in “Big Little Lies,” for which he received Emmy and Golden Globe awards. Most recently, he starred in “The Northman,” and is also set to join the third season of HBO’s Emmy-winning “Succession.”
The listing is held Julia Hoagland and Emma St. Laurent of Compass.
