The Tampa EDITION has launched within the $3.5 billion Water Street Tampa mixed-use development. The new luxury hotel is the 15th international property from the Marriott brand, as well as Tampa’s first-ever 5-Star hotel.

Crafted akin to Scandinavian harbor cities like Stockholm, Water Street Tampa will double the city’s footprint as it continues to roll out new amenities to the public. This chic-yet-simple European aesthetic is complemented by the Tampa EDITION’s singular design, which was envisioned by an elite team including ISC Design Studio, Morris Adjmi Architects, Nichols Architects, Bonetti Kozerski Architects, Roman and Williams, and EDITION creative director Ian Schrager.

“We wanted to do something really sophisticated, really new and simple, and something that would have a really universal appeal to people of all ages and all walks of life,” Schrager says. “We also wanted to capture the spirit of Tampa as one of the most livable cities in the country and a new gateway in South Florida, as one of the fastest growing states in the country. So it was being true to ourselves, being true to Tampa, adding a sense of theater, and creating something really special and magical that could only be in Tampa.”

Industrial details, Art Deco-inspired lines, and lush greenery found throughout the hotel accentuate the organic, wellness focus of the Water Street Tampa neighborhood. The 26-story property is also distinguished by a tower that houses 38 upscale private residences across its upper levels and 172 guestrooms across its lower nine levels along with public spaces.

A softly curved bougainvillea-covered canopy punctuates the arrival experience, as guests enter a lobby with soaring 20-foot-tall ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that drench interiors with natural light. Open-pore travertine, walnut wood, and live greenery animates the lobby bar, which is outfitted with modern seating and a large-scale stainless steel artwork by British-Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor. The scalloped walnut bar and cognac-hued leather stools seamlessly flow into Lilac, the hotel’s convivial Mediterranean restaurant adorned with walnut floors, warm globe pendants, and an open kitchen.

Crowning the property’s ninth floor is Azure at EDITION, a posh rooftop eatery lined with a neutral backdrop of travertine, Japanese blueberry trees, and bright pops of purple bougainvillea. Five poolside cabanas and more than 80 loungers also populate Azure, inviting guests to maximize the South Florida climate. Sunny all-day concept Market and the glamorous Punch Room round out the F&B options, distinguished by natural materials like white oak and Calcutta marble and cozy, muted jewel tones inspired by Old Hollywood, respectively.

The Tampa EDITION’s wellness facility, located on the second floor and featuring six treatment rooms, echoes the natural palette with curved white oak, marble surfaces, and gold leaf accents. A 250-person private event space as well as two studios and a boardroom are also included on the second floor and mezzanine, balancing out the materiality with technological fixtures.

Guestrooms serve as stylish havens with handsome natural materials, custom Jean-Michel Frank-inspired furnishings, and photography by Rodney Smith. Five garden terrace rooms and the one-bedroom penthouse are key standouts of the lineup, with the latter boasting a media room, open living and dining room, pantry, walk-in wardrobe, and an expansive bathroom.
