RH (previously known as Restoration Hardware) opened its newest location within San Francisco’s 80,000 square-foot landmark building, the Historic Bethlehem Steel Building, at Pier 70. As one of the summer’s most highly anticipated openings, RH San Francisco launched with a private celebration that benefited Tipping Point, a non-profit fighting poverty in the San Francisco Bay Area. In attendance were host committee members including Tolan and Tyler Florence, Jessica Moment, Sobia and Nadir Shaikh, Danielle and Brandon Shorenstein name a few notable guests.
RH San Francisco, The Gallery At The Historic Bethlehem Steel Building is a stunning, five floor, first-of-its kind design and dining destination that features The Palm Court Restaurant & Wine Bar; a Rooftop Park with views of the San Francisco skyline and Bay Bridge; an in-house interior design firm; and full floors of RH Interiors, including the brand’s newest collection RH Contemporary.
The building, originally constructed in 1917 by San Francisco architect Frederick H. Meyer, has been reimagined and restored by RH Chairman & CEO, Gary Friedman. This massive project brings together luxury home furnishings collections with elegant dining and drinking experiences in an unforgettable, glamorous setting.
Guests enter the impressive neoclassical Bethlehem Steel building through hand-foraged iron gates decorated with intricate scrollwork and gilded acanthus leaves. As they continue to make their way in, guests are welcomed by a show-stopping octagonal lobby complete with the building’s original rose marble floors, surrounded by cast-stone walls, trickling wall fountains and antique urns, all underneath a restored, plastered ornamental ceiling by Manuel Palos.
At the heart of the building is the beautiful Palm Court Restaurant, a live-fire dining experience featuring a monolithic marble cooking hearth flanked by custom Molteni rotisseries from France. Two wine bars are found nearby the restaurant’s two entrances pouring still and sparkling wines from around the world to accompany the menu.
Diners sit beneath a dramatic atrium, with the space showcasing structural steelwork inspired by the former shipyard, towering Medjool date palms, and a cascading center fountain sculpted of Calacatta gold marble. The menu starts off with a generous selection of caviars and starters that include a wood grilled artichoke with herb butter and their famous wood grilled avocado with 10 grams of Petrossian Kaluga Caviar and creme fraiche.
For lighter fare The Palm Court Restaurant offers a classic caesar, 1950s style; a green bean and butter lettuce salad; and the popular rotisserie chicken salad. Also on the menu are a selection of sandwiches which includes the Wagyu ribeye sandwich and hearth burger with Monterey jack cheese.
The mains include a thinly sliced wagyu ribeye topped with coarse sea salt; rotisserie chicken freshly carved; and a whole Branzino. Sides include wood grilled cob of corn; truffle fries; and coal roasted sweet potatoes. Finally, the highlight of the dessert menu is the butterscotch brulee.
The rooftop park is certainly something to check out while dining at The Palm Court Restaurant. Take a glass of wine and head upstairs to an immersive garden space experienced within a vestibule marked by retractable glass walls that open onto a beautifully landscaped park framing panoramic views of San Francisco Bay and the downtown skyline. The area is outfitted with RH Outdoor lounge spaces alongside trellised London plane trees, sculptural evergreens and trickling fountains.
