Known around the globe as the diamond certified Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey spent Easter in her recently purchased Southern Colonial mansion in Atlanta’s posh Sandy Springs suburb.

The inventively melismatic five-octave pop songbird, who rakes in an estimated $2.5 million a year just from her holiday megahit “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” and ranks as the best-selling female recording artist of all time with more than 200 million albums sold, quietly acquired the 4.2-acre spread late last year in an off-market deal valued at $5.65 million. There were almost immediately whispers Mimi was the new owner, but her residency in the almost 13,000-square-foot mansion was only confirmed when the Easter Bunny dropped by last month.

Marketing materials from when the nine-bedroom and 13-bathroom mansion was last on the open market highlight a massive kitchen with premium culinary equipment and acres of white marble, a huge family room with a fireplace and several sets of French doors, a movie theater, and a mirror-walled gym.

Of course, Mimi didn’t just move right in without sprinkling around some of her signature glitter. Lots of fussy, traditional wallpaper was removed, a pink and cream rug and a glitzy pink chandelier now adorn the foyer, and a giant tufted velvet headboard was installed in the main bedroom, which also has a fireplace and French doors.

Other highlights include a swooping gated driveway in the vague shape of a heart, a swimming pool and pool house privately set against dense woodlands, a spacious guest apartment with fireplace, and a children’s playground. The acres of rolling lawns are bordered by well-tended plantings and shaded by mature specimen trees.

As it turns out, Carey isn’t the first or arguably even the most famous occupant of the stately spread. A couple years ago, the estate was leased to professional-wrestler-turned-money-minting-movie-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who can boast 315 million Instagram followers compared to Ms. Carey’s comparatively minuscule 10.8 million, and who single-handedly ripped the estate’s massive wrought-iron driveway gates right off their sturdy brick pillars after the power went out and he was trapped on the property while cast and crew waited for him on set.

Carey, a diva of decadence who recently hosted an Instagram Live from a swimming pool while dressed in a sequin sheath, owns several homes of her own but sometimes bounces around from high-priced rental to high-priced rental. She spent some of her Covid quarantine holed up in a lavish mansion with a violin-shaped pool in New York’s tony Westchester County, and she’s rented homes in both L.A. and the Hamptons in years past. In addition to her big new digs in Atlanta, Carey has long presided over a huge triplex penthouse in lower Manhattan that was featured in Architectural Digest more than 20 years ago, as well as a breezy, three-acre beachfront compound on the Bahamas’ ultra-exclusive Windermere Island.
