Tucked along a tree-lined one-way with cobblestone sidewalks, the location of 86 Marlborough St. is covetable, but the interior details are what really make this Back Bay brownstone sing.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom town house features several different stone and wood accents, from egg-and-dart trim to dentil molding. It’s also three-10ths of a mile from the Public Garden and the Dartmouth Street Footbridge, which allows pedestrians to access the Esplanade without having to navigate across Storrow Drive.

The home hit the market May 17 for $2,000,000 and offers two levels and 1,551 square feet of living space. The first level centers on a palatial living room with oak floors and a 13-foot-high coffered ceiling. Floor-to-ceiling built-in shelves line the wall surrounding an antique fireplace – one of three in the unit.

“Formal” is the apt word to describe the dining room, which is separated from the living room with glass-paned pocket doors. The elegant space features marble and onyx floors, hand-carved mahogany walls, a tiered 800-piece chandelier, and a stained-glass ceiling.

On another side of the living room, a Calcutta quartz-topped island with seating for three sits just outside the kitchen. Accessed through a cased entrance, the kitchen sticks to a white-and-gray theme, with white brick walls, a heated white-and-gray mosaic marble floor, a white beveled-marble subway tile backsplash, and a Calcutta quartz counter. Intricately carved Athenian-style corbels under the sink and over the refrigerator add an antique air to the room, balanced by the modern high-end appliances.

The sellers used the bedroom on this floor as an office, an easy transition thanks to the built-in shelves that line one of the walls. There’s also a full bathroom on this level with Statuario marble counters; a standalone shower with a custom glass door; a heated, chevron-patterned marble floor; and a silver textured vessel sink.

The primary suite encompasses the entire lower level, offering enough space for two walk-in closets, an open closet, and a luxurious en-suite bathroom. The heart of the bedroom area features a pentagonal tray ceiling, as well as a black wood-burning fireplace set against a white brick wall. In the bathroom, the double-sink vanity is topped with Statuario marble. A shower room separated by a glass door houses both a walk-in steam shower with hand-held, overhead, and wall-mounted heads and a jetted marble bathtub.

The town house comes with a deeded parking space and a monthly $628 homeowners association fee that covers heat, hot water, sewer, laundry, landscaping, snow removal, master insurance, and a management fee.
