The interior design of the JW Marriott hotel rising at a corner of downtown's Eighth and Demonbreun will pay homage to Nashville's musical and industrial past, including the city's roots in leather and steel production.

On Tuesday, developer Turnberry Associates unveiled the design concept for public spaces, guest rooms and conference and event facilities at the 33-story, 533-room luxury hotel that's expected to open next year.

Wicker wingback chairs evocative of acoustic guitar strings and reinforced steel light fixtures will be among musical and industrial references incorporated throughout the hotel’s public spaces. Plans also call for more than 100 pieces of contemporary art that pay homage to Nashville's musical history, creating pops of color against the Zebrino polished marble floors and Kenya black honed marble reception desks.

"Our primary goal when designing the interiors was to create an authentic Nashville experience from arrival to departure, and telling the story of this dynamic city in a fresh, new way," said Sara Duffy, senior interiors associate with New York-based design firm Stonehill & Taylor, which created the concept.

A patterned wood “firefly box” illuminated by delicate bulbs will be suspended from the ceiling above the entrance inside the hotel, which is rising across from the Music City Center convention hall.  A Portoro marble fireplace flanked by bronze screens that will rise 17 feet and a custom will be in the lobby, which will be anchored by custom blonde wood multi-use activity table that will offer guests a lively atmosphere to interact, work and host small social gatherings.

A library just beyond the hotel’s main entrance will feature a curved, 30-foot oak wood bookshelf to serve as the focal point of the room. The adjacent bar and lounge will have a circular fireplace, velvet banquets and a glossy black bar with mirror details, and is being touted as a place to relax and enjoy a selection of more than 1,000 wines and premium cigars.

The hotel’s two ballrooms with more than 25,000 square feet of meeting space will be outfitted with a custom carpet reminiscent of Nashville’s rapidly developing skyline and caged lighting. The 16 meeting rooms and two permanent boardrooms will feature attractive views with a lot of natural light. The hotel will also have a spa, while the pool area will have private cabanas and monochrome deck furniture set around a stone-encased fire pit to encourage social interaction.

Each room will have pale wood paneling with pops of regal blue tones and black steel finishes and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of Nashville’s  landmarks. The hotel also will feature retail space that will showcase products from top retailers in a  museum-inspired setting with limestone recesses set against antique mirroring.

“There is no denying that Nashville is having a moment right now and we are excited to be a part of this dynamic city’s renaissance,” said Jackie Soffer, Turnberry Associates' CEO and co-chairman.
