If there’s anything better than hosting sunset cocktails on the terrace of your Manhattan condo, it’s got to be hosting sunset cocktails on the tallest terrace for many blocks, one with its own outdoor fireplace. Asking $33 million, the penthouse at 180 East 88th Street is extremely spacious, both inside and out. Featuring very high ceilings, the duplex interior space totals 5,508 square feet, with an additional 3,500 square feet of exterior terraces, including a private rooftop terrace overlooking Central Park at an elevation of 467 feet. The condo crowns a building designed by DDG and listed by Corcoran Sunshine.

But it’s not just the penthouse that’s amazing — it’s the entire building. The 524-foot skyscraper is built with custom Kolumba brick from Denmark for a tactile, textured façade, while the building’s distinctive arched aesthetic, emphasized in the penthouse, is also evident in the lobby, where a recessed entrance leads through a private garden to a vaulted lobby.

The five-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom penthouse includes two living room spaces (one with gas fireplace and wet bar), a large dining area, eat-in kitchen, den, and a staircase to a private roof landing. Too much stairclimbing? Don’t worry, there’s a private elevator to the three levels. That roof terrace, by the way, is divided into two substantial, highly usable areas.

Dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows surround the open-plan living room, dining room and great room, and ceiling heights range from 13’6″ to over 28 feet. A beautiful spiral staircase extends to the upper floor bedrooms while overlooking views of the city and entertainment areas. The enormous custom Molteni & C Dada kitchen features a center island with white lacquered cabinetry, statuary marble counter-tops, as well as a full suite of Gaggenau appliances, including two ovens, two dishwashers, and natural brass fixtures by Fantini.

In the master suite, there’s a cozy gas fireplace and romantic loggia terrace overlooking Central Park. Also on hand are a dressing room and ensuite bathroom with radiant heat flooring, silver travertine slabs, mosaic tile accented walls and floor, oak cabinetry with honed Bianco Grigio marble countertops, a rain shower, and natural brass Fantini fixtures. The secondary bedrooms share direct access to a 44’ x 10’8″ loggia terrace overlooking the eastern cityscape and bridges, with bathrooms featuring hexagonal Carrara marble mosaic tiles and Fantini fixtures.

Last but not least, the private roof terrace offers views in all directions as well as that gas fireplace, and in the landing, an additional powder room. The building itself offers an eight floors of amenities including a gym, basketball court, soccer pitch, children’s playroom, game room, and residents’ lounge with catering kitchen.
